Wilfried Hedenborg, born in 1977 in Salzburg, Austria, began studying the violin at the age of six. His first teacher was his father Stefan Hedenborg, with whom he studied until 1989, whereupon he entered the Mozarteum Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Salzburg, as a student of Prof. Ruggiero RICCI. In 1996 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree with distinction and in 1998 finished his studies at the Mozarteum, graduating with a Masters of Arts Degree, again with distinction. In 1997 he founded "THE VIENNA QUARTET, which he played as its first violinist until 2001. In 1998 he started his post graduate studies at the Conservatorium Vienna with Prof.Werner HINK which he graduated in 2002 with distinction and has also developed the "INFELD VIOLIN" strings with Thomastik-Infeld. Developments of "Vision" and "PI" strings followed. Since 1st March 2001 Hedenborg plays in the 1st Violin Section in the Vienna Stateopera Orchestra / Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, is a member of Wiener Philharmoniker since 2004 and as a board member he also served as a librarian from 2004 - 2010. Since September 2006 he also became a member of Wiener Hofmusikkapelle. Furthermore he is representing the orchestra of the Vienna Stateopera as their works council chairman as of 2018.
Over the years, he has attended numerous masterclasses held by Ruggiero RICCI. These have taken place in Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain and the U.S.A. He has also taken part annually in masterclasses held by Thomas BRANDIS and Herman KREBBERS.
Between 1993 and 1997 he was a prizewinner at a number of international violin competitions: First prizes in the "Jugend musiziert" competition with a special prize awarded by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the "Alpe-Adria" competition (Gorizia, Italy), the "Concours R.Ricci" (Iserlohn, Germany) and the "T.Wronski Solo Violin Competition" (Warsaw, Poland); other prizes include 2nd prize at "Concertino Praga", 4th prize at the "P.de Sarasate" competition (Pamplona, Spain). He also obtained the special award by the Summer Academy of Mozarteum Salzburg (1994), the "Christa-Richter-Steiner" award (1998) and the "Honour Award" given by the Minister for Science and Traffic, Dr. Caspar Einem.
